The housing crisis is the number one challenge facing the Los Angeles area, and for too long the city government has been a major barrier to fixing this crisis. To shift the supply curve and permanently solve this issue, we must address the root cause of the crisis: decades of exclusionary zoning and restrictive land use laws. It is both a moral and economic necessity to if we wish to build a city that works for all its residents.
Through zoning reform, incremental growth, increase density around transit infrastructure, and redevelopment of underutilized commercial zones we can begin to address the housing crisis and build a city that is more affordable and livable for all.
The Southern California region has made great strides the past few years, and future investments will continue this path. We can leverage these advancements to maximize opportunity for the city. Unlike the Incumbent, I fully support SB79 and the other housing and transportation bills passed in recent years, and I will utilize them for maximal benefit.
I am, however, very disturbed that the City is using dishonesty and gamesmanship to avoid following HLA and Federal ADA laws. I support the intent behind HLA and Vision Zero, and I will work to put these policies into practice. Obviously auto transportation should be a major priority, but it need not be the only priority. All street level users deserve safety when going about their lives.
All Angelenos deserve safe, clean, and usable infrastructure, regardless of neighborhood or status. Both law enforcement and social service providers play a part in maintaining the public square. Law Enforcement is a necessary part of society, and we should be enforcing the laws on the books to ensure all residents feel safe and secure. While the LAPD has taken strides to improve certain structural issues, there is still progress to be made.
I do not support using any city resources to support federal immigration agencies as long as they view themselves as an anticonstitutional and extrajudicial occupation force. Every person in this district and city has Constitutional Rights that deserve to be protected and respected. I will be a strong advoacte for your rights and work to bring accountability when the government violates them.
We have the resources to build a sustainable, prosperous economy. The city should be prioritizing small business growth, supporting living wage jobs, and building an economy that benefits everyone. As the only candidate in this race with real private sector experience, I will be an advocate for growth oriented policies to ensure that future generations have the same opportunities as those who came before us.
Westwood Village was once a vibrant economic and social hub for West LA. Today it sits as a shell of its former self. Fault lies directly at the feet of the City and the 5th Council district office for the decay of this valuable social and economic asset. As a council member, I will make the revitalization of this area a top priority.
I propose creating an Enhanced Infrastructure Financing Distrcit (EIFD) for this area so we can create street level improvements to improve safety and mobiliy, build new housing, and spur economic growth without raising taxes.
For too long, our city has been corrupted by maligned actors looking out for only their own interests. I commit to SERVE all residents of this district regardless to status or influence. In a democratic society, everyone deserves to have their voices represented and their rights respected.
